![]() Both players claim to be bit-perfect but the sonic differences are audible. The Google Chromecast Audio is supposedly bit-perfect but sounds completely different depending on the optical cable I use. But when I change out a USB cable, the sound is transformed while the purple star still shines. Roon will let you know if a stream is bit-perfect with a little purple star. Is it possible for two bit-perfect players to sound different? Only in audio would a piece of software be called a hoax lol. I’m not one for drama and didn’t care to read any of the reports or test results. Essentially, I don’t really care which sounds best. Well – because I love you…I’ll dust off my old PC and do some digging.Īside from Roon, I haven’t used any of these players heavily nor do I plan to. I’ve been kindly asked by readers to compare these players. When I’m on the go, I just plug in my Chord Hugo 2 and stream off Spotify or Tidal. ![]() You might learn a bit more about what it's doing by playing around manually with the DLNA settings, file format, bit-level, sampling etc and see what combination works better for you - as I said, the option you have selected I think is just a preset.Understandably, there are plenty of audiophiles who use their Windows machines as their server/streamer. "Better" is subjective, what I think you probably mean is that for some reason it sounds different and you prefer that difference and maybe your DAC and amplifier work better with such a signal er perhaps it's their "native" format and don't have to do much work (I don't how they work.), but it's not necessarily reproducing the original file accurately and faithfully. If your files are lossless in the first place then this shouldn't really make any difference and to hear the file exactly as it should be you should actually do no conversion at all, but I think there are some who feel that upconversion makes things sound better. I'm not sure but I think this is just a preset for options that are already in the DLNA settings, and it probably converts the file to PCM 24-bit and a high sample rate before sending. ![]()
